COLOR The heartwood is light when cut, but upon exposure darkens to light brown. GRAIN Typically straight, but has no distinct pattern or a subdued pattern with tight open knots. FINISHING Has excellent staining properties but is not recommended for painting due to the open knots. |

COLOR The heartwood will range from a cream to a light reddish-brown. GRAIN Typically straight, but can be wavy or curly, known as burl. FINISHING Excellent paint adhering qualities and accepts stain well, though often unevenly. |
